We have decided to do a new thing here in 2018. We call it Athlete of the Month.
Each month, an athlete either in MMA or the fitness industry who stood out.
We are kicking it off with January’s athlete of the month Jessica-Rose Clark AKA Jessy
Jess, a professional fighter from Australia, now living and training in Las Vegas.
Jessica suffered back to back losses in late 2016/early 2017. First she dropped a close
split decision to Pam Sorenson at Invicta in November followed by a unanimous decision
loss to Sarah Kaufman for the lesser known Battlefield Fighting Championships promotion
in South Korea. But since then she has been on a roll.
She took a decision from veteran Carina Damm for Titan FC in August of 2017 and earned
her UFC debut. In that debut she took a decision win over Bec Rawlings.
Which leads to January. Less than two months after her UFC debut, Jessica was back in the
UFC cage facing Paige VanZant at Fight Night 124 in St. Louis. Using a smart effective
strategy, Clark controlled the fight and made it go where she wanted to go, taking a Unanimous Decision.
With the flyweight division being very new to the UFC, Clark already has two wins in the
division and is well on her way to climbing the rankings and is someone to watch as the
division begins to settle itself out.
